Be Cycle: If These Bikes Could Talk
Bicycles are a mode of transportation. They get you to places while you exercise, commute or peruse while you don’t pollute the air. But what happens when they are left alone, parked, chained or forgotten somewhere? You’ve probably walked by numbers of old bicycles, chained to a One Way sign, rusted and forgotten.
How many owners did those bikes have? When did someone last use their pedals? What was the furthest from their final destination that they rode? How many seasons did they silently spent on a sidewalk?
This series of photographs is a tribute to those rusted bikes, to the urban sculptures they’ve become, and to the passage of time they’ve witnessed. NYC changes with a faster pace each day, but some bikes have withstood even the wildest neighborhood revamps and are still there. Here’s to those relics of this city, to them being part of the landscape YOU call home.
